I'm recently self employed so do not have a huge portfolio but it's a good one.
Twenty years ago I left university and got my first job as a Market Analyst working for an international electronics company. I naturally moved into Marketing Communications and then spent five years with General Cable, soon to become Telewest.
Much of my time was spent in long meetings with Directors trying to figure out how to increase sales and make more profit. I slowly came to realize that the one big problem with these organisations and their management was that they seemed to have forgotten that their customers, whether other businesses or the general public were actually real people with feelings, needs, desires, hopes and worries.
The campaigns and promotions were all very much focused on what the company would gain from them – i.e., profit. Relationships with the customers were not seen as important – only in as far as they paid their bills and didn’t complain.
I moved to Devon six years ago and spent some time running a small design agency. At the same time I researched strategies for success. I read about and talked to some of the most successful business entrepreneurs in the world and the “thinking” behind this success is always the same. Successful people think and act in very similar ways.
I soon realised that many small businesses are having the wool pulled over their eyes by expensive design agencies, advertising agencies and website developers – who all claim to know about marketing.
I want to share these tips and strategies not only with my clients – but also to make them available to new businesses starting up - this website will give you some very practical tips on how to increase your sales. Use as much of these as you can – they absolutely work.
